Shri Nilesh Desai President, ISRS MESSAGE FROM ISRS EXECUTIVE COUNCIL 2020-2022 1st Jan, 2021 Shri Nilesh M. Desai, the newly elected president, has the following message for the ISRS Fraternity, on behalf of ISRS Executive Council 2020-2022 : At the outset, let me express our gratitude towards the Members of Indian Society of Remote Sensing (ISRS) for electing us and extend our warm Greetings to all at the beginning of the tenure of the new executive council of ISRS for the term 2020-2022.We assure you that, having given us the opportunity to serve this esteemed professional society for next two years, we shall collectively strive hard and leave no stone unturned to make ISRS much more active, vibrant, visible and relevant at national and international levels. We shall strive for the development and promotion of various remote sensing technologies and applications, in general and microwave, optical and hyper-spectral remote sensing related space and other associated research activities, in particular, in the country. We intend to make ISRS, a vibrant platform to express the views of professional subject experts and ensure that they are heard and appreciated by the decision makers. At the same time, we expect the members to understand and work towards the needs of decision makers and strategic users for national development. As thorough professionals, we will put extra efforts for inclusive (Institution ? R&D ? Industry ? Academia - Government) growth of ISRS. Together, we will be able to nurture our professional society and sustain an ecosystem, wherein the remote sensing technology and applications will play a more meaningful role for national development. This may include innovative, novel and out-of-box solutions involving remote sensing techniques, which can play a significant role in taming problems related to water scarcity, extreme weather events, air pollution and various other similar problems faced by our beloved country. We are committed to take our society to newer heights by enhancing its activities at national level and increase the visibility and impact of ISRS at various international forums such as ISPRS, IEEE, CEOS AARS/ACRS etc. We aspire to provide a dynamic leadership to the society and look forward to your kind support and full cooperation to work together as a team as always for the noble cause of promoting Remote Sensing and its Applications and steer ISRS towards higher glory. Future plan for ISRS :In addition to the existing major activities, we also propose the following new initiatives for ISRS: - Improved involvement of local Chapters in ISRS activities by working out Agenda for Chapters
- Identifying a pool of senior scientists, academia and other experts from across the nation as Resource Persons of Council to help, assist and guide the local chapters to run the activities
- Strengthening of ISRS by inducting professionals & academia from the niche domains of Navigation, Communication, Computer science, geospatial industry etc.
- Increased participation of members in Annual Convention and Symposia
- Organising ISRS Golden Jubilee Celebrations in 2020
- Membership Drive for increasing the membership numbers at various local chapters
- Establishing transparent and On-line ISRS election process through E-voting
